Epic Games announced that Fortnite World Cup Online Open is coming up in two weeks, they also provided detailed information about upcoming competition updates. However, what points makes Fortnite players not satisfied is that Epic intend to lock the “stretch resolution” used by professional players before the World Cup.

Not long ago, Fortnite’s competitive players found that Fortnite’s FOV could be changed using stretch resolution. The image is stretched on a 16:9 aspect ratio screen to create a wider FOV for the player. The benefits of doing so include higher FPS and goals becoming more visible. In highly competitive matches, competitions at stretched resolution are highly controversial among professional players.

Now, Epic Games decided to eliminate this trend after months of players using stretched resolutions. Here is their statement of the issue:

In the near future, we will be updating how we handle custom resolutions on PC. When using a custom resolution, vertical FOV will be locked. Horizontal FOV will be unlocked in all modes, but in competitive playlists (e.g. Arena and in-game tournaments) we will be locking the aspect ratio to 16:9.

As you can see, Epic has confirmed that Arena and in-game tournaments will now be locked at 16:9 aspect ratio, which means players will no longer be capable of play on a stretched resolution. Players do not seem to be satisfied with this change, especially the game’s top streamers:

Ninja:

The revert back to season 1 settings, adding arena increasing que times in the later sections, and now… Removing stretch res from Competitions. All of this somehow better be paying off because if this is somehow not benefiting epic idk what they are doing.

Svennoss:

Nice april fools
Didn’t expect ya’ll could come up with even more dumb stuff.
You change this for viewers experience,
Yet the game runs like ass (optimization, multiple bugs displayed on stream during tournaments EVERY match which make them not even watch in the first place.

TSM_Myth:

I just thought it was funny how we all switched to stretched and now were all gonna go back running to 1920, even pros that make fun of content creators have to play on native now, and I just think its comedic.

So, what are your thoughts on the change of the stretched resolutions? Let us know in the comments below and don’t forget to check out fortnite season 8 leaks of week 6 challenges.

Before the start of the Fortnite World Cup Online Open tournaments on April 13, Epic announced the World Cup warm-up match. Players who qualify through Arena mode will participate in the 3-hour event window on April 6. The top 1,500 people in each region will enter the finals on April 7. There will be a $500,000 prize pool for the Epic game to confirm that the prize distribution will be more extensive than in previous weeks.

Also, Epic has confirmed that it is working on how to make queues faster, and even use special creative maps to keep you busy while waiting. New scoring formats, league-specific contests, and custom rewards to new departments are all upcoming confirmation ideas.
